You may have seen our new company mentioned
July 21 in the New York Times and thank you for checking us out!
There are several other sober travel companies
out there that are very good, but they mainly focus on Caribbean,
Mexico, Club Med, etc. What sets Sober Travel Adventures (STA)
apart from them are two features...
1. We go farther. Our destinations are
more exotic with a little more challenge or adventure. (Mind you
all hotels and transports are all first class.) All our trips are
international. Most are enjoyed by clients who have already been
abroad although we do get as many as 30% first timers, particularly on
our European trips.
2. In all honesty, we have not
established a large enough database to arrange these trips with a
guarantee of 100% sober people. This however can be an asset for
all concerned. In recovery or not, we live day to day in the real
world where alcohol in many "flavors" is omnipresent. We cannot
cocoon ourselves from its presence anywhere we may be.
Presently we are blending sober travelers
with our parent company
Adventures For Singles,
(please click through to subscribe to the AFS
free travel e-newsletter) which has been an extremely successful company for
the past 16 years
with our new Sober Travel division. On any AFS/STA vacation, you will
be in a comfortable social environment. Both tour leaders are
active in AA and on average 20% of the group are in recovery.
For example, within 40 on an African Safari, 10-15 will be clean.
We honor total anonymity within the group and each night invite you to
join us in a 12 step meeting. These meetings are intensely unique
and so exciting to experience in a foreign land. Sometimes it's as
simple as an intimate gathering of sober friends on a beach in Tahiti
with the Big Book. Other times we join large local English
speaking meetings in capital cities of awesome countries. At a
meeting in Bangkok once, one of our clients encountered someone from her
California home group who was there on business!
We find that our concept has worked like
magic. Everyone enjoys an affordable quality adventure and most
bond in lifelong friendships. Our vacations never center around a
party atmosphere although we do have large fun. The common
denominator is all about the chosen destination. We go together to
get cultural
stimulation, great photos. new friends and memories worthy of
recollection. Life is great sober! |

Suzy in Budapest |
Note from Suzy Davis for those in recovery: You're not alone on a Sober Travel Adventures vacation. There is safety and comfort within a group that shares a common bond. These people know how to have fun! Far from home, surrounded in an environment so beautiful and so exciting, we are distracted from the thought of imbibing.
From sunrise to sunset, there is a plethora of stimulating cultural
activities. Temptations seem to dissipate in an atmosphere of
sheer joy. I know because I've lived it. Come join us on a life enhancing journey. Now is the time to celebrate. Come live a dream!!
